Notes
This non-liturgical religious song is a new addition to the East-Syriac chant repertory. The Dharmamram team under the leadership of Fr. Cyriac Madathil, CMI took the initiative. The song pays tribute to St. Kuriakose Elias Chavara, the co-founder of the CMI congregation, who was also a poet and writer. The specific reference in this song is a work in Malayalam that St. Chavara wrote, "Nalla Appante Chavarul "(Testament of a benevolent Father). It is like a manual for a devout Catholic family life. The song refers ot the journey the saint made from his native place at Kainakari -Kuttanad, to the hilltop of Mannanam where he cooperated with the other three founders to establish the first religious Congregation for men in India. We are grateful to Joseph K. Palackal for providing us with the visuals for the video. Hope this video will inspire future composers to think about writing religious songs in Syriac. The field of Syriac poetry is open with immense potential.
