Notes
This video is a welcome addition to the section on Music Ecumenism in our digital library. We are searching for common melodies in the Syriac liturgies of different churches among the St. Thomas Christians. Such melodies take us back to the era before the division among churches and help us to see the shared traditions. Here, Anne Lia Wilson from the Chaldean Syrian Church of the East sings a post-communion song, Rase Danswan". The melody is almost the same as the one in the post-communion song in the Syro Malabar Syriac Qurbana; "Maran iso malka sgida.." We can listen to this version of the melody in Aramaic Project 18 • Aramaic Project -... in the voice of Sr. Kochuthresya. Fr. Abel Periyappuram, CMI, wrote a post-communion song in Malayalam set to this meter and melody: Sahanm wazhiyay maranathinmel/ saswatha wijayam nediya natha for a requiem Qurbana that is not currently in use. We hope this unique melody will come back to the Vernacular liturgies. We post this video with the permission of Ann Lia's parents, Rekha and Wilson Muriyadan. May God bless Ann Lia for continuing the Syriac tradition.

Dear father, In the Aramaic project 316, I noticed your hope to bring the melody of "Maran Isho" back to vernacular liturgies. But Two post-communion songs with the same tune of "Maran Isho" are there in the revised Syro-Malabar Taksa of 2021. It was new knowledge for me that Abel achan had prepared a Malayalam translation for "Maran Isho". Probably the song "Sahanam vazhiyayi maranathinmel vijayam nediya Mishiha nadha" in the new text may be another version of Abel Achan's translation with slight changes.
