Notes
On the reintroduction of the Syriac version of Our Father in Qurbana : Prof. Sebastian Brock
Preserving the Syriac version of the Lord's prayer is more than an attempt to preserve a linguistic tradition, but a way to reconnect with Jesus and His times and mindset. According to Prof. Brock, the prayer in its current form contains almost 9o% of the original words that Jesus used. The Syriac Christians in general, and the Syro Malabar Catholics in particular, should consider it a privilege and an honor to reintroduce the Syriac text into the Qurbana, first in Syriac and then in the vernacular. By doing so, children might develop an affinity to the Syriac tradition. We hope the Syro Malabar clergy will draw inspiration from the video.
