Varunnu Njangal Track 06 from Album Osana. The Song, Varunnu Njangal Varunnu Njangal has three versions.

1. Original in 'Abelinte Bhakti ganangal' by Rev. Fr. Abel Periyappuram CMI with music by Shri K.K.Antony Master.

2. Fr. Abel’s version for the Vestition Ceremony of Nuns. This version of Fr. Abel was premiered as the entrance hymn for the Holy Qurbana of Centenary Celebrations of Franciscan Clarist Congregation (FCC) at St. Mary's school ground in Aluva, Kerala, on 27 November 1988. Fr. Palackal composed a new melody for the occasion.

3. Modified version of Fr. Joseph J Palackal for the recording as an entrance song for Qurbana. That is what we have in the cassette with an addition of a stanza by Fr. Palackal, the Anupallavi - "Anna Pesaha Thirnaalil Nee /Aruliya Kalpana pol."

Note: The General Counsel of the Franciscan Clarist Congregation (FCC) decided to hold a three-day celebration of its Centenary, on 25 to 27 November 1988. The final event of the celebration was a solemn celebration on Syro Malabar Qurbana at St. Mary’s School ground at Aluva. The Mother General asked me to direct the music for the occasion. About a hundred talented sisters from the Congregation formed the choir. One hundred young novices received their habits during this Qurbana. I chose a few existing songs and then composed a few new ones for the occasion. Fr. Abel had written the lyrics of this song for the rite of vestition. I composed a new melody that is fit for an entrance song. I chose Rag Kalavathi. I had returned from Baroda after my studies in Hindustani music at Maha Raja Sayaji Rao University. Although Rag Kalavathi was not part of the three-year syllabus, I had the opportunity to listen to an LP record of the famous singer Prabha Atre at the National Centre of the Performing Arts (NCPA) at Nariman Point in Bombay. Prabha Atre’s melodious rendering of this raga impressed my mind. The scalar structure Sa-Ga-Pa-Dh- Ni - SA sounded suitable in mimicking the walking pace of the Novices during the entrance procession of Qurbana. The 1-3-5 (Sa – Ga - Pa) ascending movement of the scale became the core of the melody. The melody was premiered on 27 November 1988 at the grand celebration of Qurbana. Later I decided to make a studio recording of the song with some modifications. I added the Anupallavi (“Annappesaha thirunalil nee “) to make it an appropriate gathering song before Qurbana.
